Carrefour allows you to pay for your groceries with a smile

Keep your wallet at home

Carrefour Face Pay

Carrefour, one of the largest and most popular hypermarket chains in the world, has launched a biometric system where you’ll now be able to pay with a smile!

So ditch your wallet before you head to Carrefour for shopping, as the hypermarket chain operated by Majid Al Futtaim in the UAE and Dubai-based payment processor Network International have rolled out a new facial recognition payment system.

How Carrefour  ‘Face Pay’ shopping works?

Carrefour has teamed up with Network International to launch the “Face Pay” face verification platform for payments from consumer authentication service provider PopID. PopID is the  gateway for verifying an individual’s identity based on face for applications such as loyalty, payment, and entry.

Customers of Carrefour in  Deira and Amsaf Mall branches will be able to pay for their purchases of food, daily necessities and other goods using the Face Pay solution.

To avail this service, you have to register your face using the Carrefour app or website.

In the future, Carrefour’s Face Pay system will likely be linked to earning loyalty points as PopID has trailed this in America and Japan.

Bernardo Perloiro, Chief Operating Officer – GCC at Majid Futtaim Retail, said: “Carrefour is a leader in introducing new technologies that enhance the customer experience, while finding solutions that can eliminate friction.

He added, “The face verification feature will facilitate and make payments easier and more efficient for customers without the need to use their wallets. This secure and seamless payment method is fast; it only takes a few seconds. We are excited to be among the first in the retail sector to launch this technology across the UAE in partnership with PopID.”

John Miller, CEO at PopID, said, “In America and Japan, we have demonstrated that allowing consumers to link Face Pay to loyalty accounts and payment methods enhances revenue, increases speed of ordering and check out, drives loyalty engagement, and reduces fraud.”

The UAE is increasing using facial recognition and biometric technology to provide services to its residents.
