Ramadan 2024 is expected to begin on March 11, according to the Emirates Astronomical Society.
We already know the exact date is dependent on the sighting of the moon closer to the time: the Holy Month of Ramadan follows the lunar calendar, and is the ninth month of the Hijri year.
However, the astronomical calculations and likely dates were revealed by Ibrahim Al Jarwan, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Astronomical Society.
This wil be the first Ramadan to fall in the UAE’s winter since 2000.
According to Ibrahim Al Jarwan, the holy month of Ramadan for the Hijri Year 1444 is likely to start from Monday, March 11. If this happens, Eid al Fitr is set to be on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. This implies that we can anticipate a week off from Monday, April 8, to Friday, April 12.
It’s important to know that religious scholars decide the exact start date of Ramadan during the night.

Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, is a time when Muslims across the world fast from sunrise to sunset. As the Muslim calendar year is shorter than the Gregorian calendar year, Ramadan begins 10 to 12 days earlier each year, allowing it to fall in every season throughout a 33-year cycle.
