The dates for Eid Al Fitr 2023 have been astronomically confirmed by Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Astronomy Society.

According to UAE Barq, Al Jarwan stated, ‘Ramadan’s full moon will be on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 8.36am local time, while the crescent of the moon of Shawwal will be born on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 8.13am, and will set 22 minutes after sunset.’

According to Al Jarwan, Friday, April 21, will be astronomically the first day of Shawwal and Eid Al Fitr.

How many days off for Eid Al Fitr 2023?

The official Eid Al Fitr holiday in the UAE is from Ramadan 29 to Shawwal 3. The holiday begins on Ramadan 29 — which is on Thursday, April 20. Shawwal 1, 2 and 3 are holidays as well. As per astronomical calculations, these are on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (April 21, 22 and 23).

This would lead to an expected four-day weekend in the UAE – which would fall on April 20, 21, 22 and 23.

Eid al-Fitr is celebrated by Muslims worldwide as it marks the end of month-long sunrise-to-sunset fasting period known as Ramadan. Eid al Fitr is also known as the ‘Festival of Breaking of the Fast’ and is one of two official holidays celebrated in Islam.
